Indian Railways is surveying Mathura Aligarh rail link via Medu junction on the Mathura–Kasganj section of North Eastern Railway. Specifically, officials initiated the final location survey to establish direct rail connectivity across the 60-kilometre gap separating the two adjacent hubs. Furthermore, the project follows a formal proposal submitted by Mathura MP Hema Malini to North Central Railway General Manager Naresh Pal Singh.
Bridging regional connectivity gaps between Mathura and Aligarh
Currently, thousands of daily commuters between Mathura and Aligarh rely entirely on road transport due to missing direct trackage. Consequently, the proposed route through Medu junction aims to reduce transit duration and streamline regional travel.
Additionally, railway officials discussed execution plans during a division meeting with regional parliamentarians on Friday. Meanwhile, technical teams continue evaluating exact alignment parameters, station layouts, and civil engineering requirements.
| Connectivity Parameter | Project Details & Regional Updates |
| Project Route | Direct line connecting Mathura and Aligarh via Medu Junction |
| Railway Division / Zone | Mathura–Kasganj section under North Eastern Railway |

Vande Bharat service expansion considered for Mathura station
Parallel to the survey, Indian Railways agreed to evaluate extending the Agra–Varanasi Vande Bharat Express to Mathura. Specifically, MP representative Janardhan Sharma confirmed that extension plans depend on developing dedicated train maintenance infrastructure at Mathura station.
Therefore, as Railways survey Mathura Aligarh rail link, upgraded infrastructure will boost regional passenger mobility and trade throughout western Uttar Pradesh.
