Vimag Labs has commenced manufacturing at its first facility in Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana. The company plans around ₹50 crore in phased investment to expand its motor and control systems production.

The facility manufactures and assembles motor, control and propulsion systems, including the company’s proprietary magnet-free motor technology. Additionally, Vimag Labs has completed and exported its first production batch from the site.

The company plans to scale production as customer demand and programme volumes increase. Its manufacturing network aims to reach capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month.

However, Vimag Labs will deploy capital progressively, depending on customer traction, programme ramp-ups and product requirements. The company has also begun evaluating additional manufacturing capacity and locations across India.

Vimag Labs manufacturing targets 10,000 systems per month

The Jhajjar facility currently spans 10,000 square feet, with scope to expand to approximately 20,000 square feet. The initial phase focuses on industrialisation, process validation and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems.

The manufacturing setup includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems and automated production lines. Furthermore, Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled monitoring systems support production tracking and traceability.

These systems aim to strengthen quality control and enable repeatable manufacturing at scale. The company intends to build a production network that supports domestic and international customer programmes.

Vimag Labs plans to increase capacity across locations as customer volumes grow. Consequently, actual production levels will depend on demand, product mix and the pace of programme development.

Manish Seth, co-founder and CEO of Vimag Labs, said the facility marks a shift from technology development and validation towards industrialisation and serial production.

“Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out,” Seth said.

He added that the company would deploy its planned investment in phases as customer programmes and product requirements develop. The first export batch, he said, demonstrates the facility’s transition into commercial manufacturing.

Company plans high-power systems of 570 kW and above

Vimag Labs will initially focus on mid-power motor and control systems for commercial applications. Its target markets include electric mobility and other electrified systems.

However, the company also plans to expand into high-power motor and control systems rated at 570 kW and above. It will pursue this expansion as customer programmes mature and product requirements become clearer.

Higher-power systems will require additional manufacturing, testing and industrialisation infrastructure. Therefore, Vimag Labs intends to align capacity additions with programme requirements rather than expand production uniformly across products.

The company is already working with multiple customers and industry partners across vehicle and application segments. Its manufacturing expansion aims to support existing programmes and future production demand.

Seth said Vimag Labs also intends to deepen partnerships across India in manufacturing, supply chains, tooling and industrialisation. The company aims to establish a globally competitive production base serving domestic and overseas customers.

Jhajjar expansion expected to create 100-150 jobs

Vimag Labs expects its manufacturing expansion to generate approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The anticipated roles will span manufacturing, quality assurance, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations. Additionally, the company plans to prioritise local recruitment as its workforce expands.

The employment estimate reflects the company’s broader manufacturing ambitions. However, the pace of recruitment will depend on production volumes and the expansion of its industrial operations.

Vimag Labs raises $5 million in Series A funding

Vimag Labs recently raised $5 million in a Series A funding round led by Accel. Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate also participated in the round.

The company has also signed a manufacturing memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support the production scale-up of its VMSM systems.

Furthermore, Vimag Labs is developing a nationwide network of manufacturing, component, tooling and industrialisation partners. The network aims to support production programmes for customers in India and overseas.

The company has also secured an exclusive US technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement. The agreement covers a production-ready, bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.

The Jhajjar facility marks the first operational step in Vimag Labs’ planned manufacturing expansion. Its next phase will depend on customer demand, production requirements and the company’s ability to scale its industrial capabilities.
