The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan has completed five years, with more than 400 infrastructure projects worth ₹20.23 lakh crore evaluated under its integrated planning framework.
Launched in October 2021, the initiative aims to improve coordination among government departments, strengthen multimodal connectivity and make infrastructure development more efficient. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s geospatial platform now integrates more than 1,800 data layers across 58 Central Ministries and Departments and all 36 States and Union Territories.
Developed indigenously by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N), the platform brings together infrastructure-related information to support coordinated planning and decision-making.
PM GatiShakti National Master Plan Integrates 1,800 Data Layers
The digital platform has expanded beyond its initial infrastructure-planning role into a broader geospatial ecosystem. It supports coordination across government departments and helps planners assess connectivity between transport networks, economic centres and essential services.
The platform has also facilitated the development and integration of more than 65 software modules and tools, alongside over 100 mobile and web applications.
The Network Planning Group (NPG) has evaluated more than 400 infrastructure projects with a combined value of approximately ₹20.23 lakh crore. Its assessment framework focuses on multimodal connectivity, last-mile links to economic and social centres, logistics efficiency and coordinated project implementation.
This approach aims to reduce planning gaps between infrastructure projects and improve connectivity across transport modes.
District-Level Planning Expands Beyond Transport Infrastructure
PM GatiShakti has extended its scope to district-level planning and social-sector development. Authorities can use integrated geospatial information to plan essential services, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities and water pipelines.
The expansion supports area-based planning by helping officials assess local infrastructure requirements alongside broader economic and transport networks.
In September 2025, the government launched the PM GatiShakti Public platform through the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI). It provides selected data analytics capabilities to private entities and the general public.
Other digital initiatives include the Knowledge Management System (KMS), the Decentralised Data Uploading and Management System (DUMS) and the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan Dashboard. These tools support knowledge sharing, data management and infrastructure monitoring.
PM GatiShakti Expansion Progressed Through Successive Phases
The initiative has expanded through several stages since its launch in 2021.
During 2022–23, eight key infrastructure ministries were onboarded, and 71 projects were evaluated. In 2023–24, the platform integrated social-sector planning, with 1,463 data layers and all 36 States and Union Territories onboarded.
During 2024–25, economic-sector integration advanced, the District Master Plan was launched and 121 projects were evaluated. In 2025–26, the government introduced the public platform, UGI, KMS, DUMS and the dashboard. The government reported 352 projects evaluated by February 2026.
By 2026, the platform had integrated approximately 1,800 data layers, more than 65 tools and over 100 applications. The government also reported 421 projects worth ₹20.23 lakh crore evaluated.
Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority to Strengthen Connectivity
The Union Cabinet has approved the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA) to strengthen long-term transport and logistics planning.
The proposed authority will support research, planning, project appraisal, monitoring and impact assessment across transport and logistics. It is intended to improve multimodal connectivity, raise infrastructure efficiency and help reduce logistics costs.
The government also expects the authority to strengthen India’s competitiveness in global logistics.
As India pursues its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, PM GatiShakti is intended to provide a common planning framework for infrastructure development. Its focus on integrated data, coordinated project assessment and district-level planning is designed to support a more connected transport and logistics network.
