The Odisha rural housing scheme has been extended by two years, from 2027 to 2029, with the state government planning to construct an additional 2.91 lakh houses under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the extension, with the total project cost remaining unchanged at ₹7,550 crore, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Under the revised plan, ₹3,500 crore originally earmarked for house repairs will be redirected towards constructing new homes.

The extension aims to expand housing coverage for eligible rural households while keeping the scheme’s overall financial outlay unchanged.

Odisha Revises Housing Incentives for Beneficiaries

The state government has also increased incentives for beneficiaries who complete house construction within specified timelines.

Under the revised guidelines, beneficiaries will receive Rs 35,000 if they complete construction within five months and ₹20,000 if they finish within seven months.

Previously, the incentives stood at ₹20,000 for completion within four months and ₹10,000 for completion within six months.

The revised incentive structure is intended to encourage timely completion of housing projects.

The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has been directed to conduct a survey and identify additional beneficiaries at the earliest.

Antyodaya Gruha Yojana Targets Vulnerable Families

The Antyodaya Gruha Yojana was initially designed to provide housing to five lakh families, primarily poor and destitute households that were ineligible for assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

The additional construction target and extended timeline will broaden the scheme’s reach as the state continues its rural housing efforts.

Majhi said the government aimed to achieve its goal of providing housing for everyone in Odisha soon.
