India becomes world leader in Green Hydrogen markets as total offtake contracts surpass 5,55,610 metric tonnes per annum. Specifically, New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that aggregate clean energy investments exceed ₹90,000 crore ($9.5 billion) as of October 2026. Furthermore, domestic developers secured 23 major international contracts, with over 70 per cent dedicated to global exports across Europe and Japan.
“Indian developers have secured 23 major contracts, accumulating over 5.5 lakh MTPA in supply commitments,” said Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy.
Global export contracts and competitive green fuel pricing
Indian suppliers currently offer the world’s most competitive prices for green ammonia and green methanol. Consequently, this cost advantage strengthens national export positions across European and Japanese industrial markets.
Additionally, major conglomerates forged binding agreements during 2026. For instance, ACME Group contracted with Japan’s IHI for 488,000 MTPA of green ammonia. Meanwhile, L&T partnered with ITOCHU, and Reliance Industries signed a multi-billion-dollar supply deal with Samsung C&T Corporation.

Domestic SIGHT programme and industrial decarbonisation
Beyond international exports, targeted domestic policies solidify robust internal demand. Specifically, under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme, agreements cover 670,000 MTPA of green ammonia for 11 domestic fertilizer units.
Additionally, public sector refineries including IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, and NRL secured 30,000 MTPA of green hydrogen. Therefore, as India becomes world leader in Green Hydrogen production, clean fuels accelerate national industrial decarbonisation and green job creation.
