The Baiyappanahalli-Hosur railway doubling project has advanced with the installation of two 61-metre-long girders over National Highway-44 near Chandapura, Bengaluru.
The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd (K-RIDE) installed the girders at Major Bridge No. 470. Each girder weighs around 245 tonnes.
The first girder was installed on October 10, while the second was placed on Wednesday. K-RIDE said these were the longest girders it had installed for a railway doubling project in Bengaluru.
Girders designed to accommodate both railway lines
The structure will accommodate both railway lines on a common substructure. It will not require an intermediate pier within the highway span.
The design is expected to facilitate smoother road movement and support the planned 12-lane highway configuration. This will remain subject to the approved design and completion of associated works.
K-RIDE Managing Director Lakshman Singh said the grade-separated crossing would allow road and rail traffic to operate independently.
This arrangement is expected to reduce disruptions to highway traffic caused by railway operations.
Railway works targeted for completion by January 2027
The associated railway and other works are targeted for completion by January 2027.
The 48-km Baiyappanahalli-Hosur railway doubling project is expected to increase rail capacity for passenger and freight services.
It will also strengthen railway connectivity between Bengaluru and Hosur, supporting movement along the corridor.
