Jai Balaji Group investment in West Bengal could reach around Rs 6,000 crore over the coming years, with a focus on specialised steel, defence, aerospace, precision engineering and renewable energy.
The group announced the proposed investment on Thursday, saying the expansion could generate more than 20,000 additional employment opportunities.
The plan includes manufacturing specialised alloy and high-grade steel for defence applications. It also covers high-precision materials and components for the railways and aerospace sectors.
Investment to cover specialised steel and engineering
The proposed investment will support production of specialised copper and aluminium alloys, steel castings and forgings.
The group also plans to expand its precision engineering and downstream manufacturing operations. These products will cater to the railways, defence, automotive, space and other engineering sectors.
The expansion is expected to strengthen the group’s presence across industries requiring specialised materials and precision components.
Renewable energy to support manufacturing operations
Jai Balaji Group also plans to invest in solar and green power generation to support its manufacturing facilities.
The proposed investments aim to improve energy efficiency and reduce the group’s carbon footprint.
Its existing integrated manufacturing infrastructure includes around 100 MW of captive power generation capacity. Some facilities use waste heat and solid industrial waste for power generation, the group said.
Group operates eight manufacturing facilities in West Bengal
Founded by the Jajodia family, Jai Balaji Group has a four-generation presence in the steel and manufacturing sectors.
It operates 10 manufacturing facilities across West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Eight of these facilities are located in West Bengal.
The group currently provides livelihood opportunities to more than 25,000 people, directly and indirectly.
The proposed expansion comes amid the West Bengal government’s efforts to attract fresh industrial investment through upcoming policy initiatives.
The group said its investment plans reflected confidence in the state’s industrial potential and the business environment being promoted by the new government.
