The textiles ministry has identified more than 4,000 textile startups in India for support to scale up operations and prepare for exports over the next three to four years.

The initiative aims to bring these businesses together, expand their reach and develop a pipeline of potential exporters, a government official said.

“We need to actually create an aggregation of these businesses so that they can act as a multiplier to propel demand, take businesses to the remotest parts of the country and identify those with the potential to enter the export markets in the next three to four years,” the official said.

The ministry plans to engage with startups and small businesses across the textile sector. This will include social media-led ventures, provided they are registered, particularly under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) framework.

Textile startups in India to receive targeted growth support

The proposed consultations will help the ministry understand the requirements of smaller textile businesses as they move towards larger-scale and export-oriented operations.

The exercise will cover businesses at different stages of development, including ventures seeking to expand their customer base, strengthen operations and explore overseas markets.

The ministry aims to identify areas where government assistance could accelerate business growth. The consultations are also expected to help establish the support needed to make these enterprises more competitive and prepare them for international markets.

The initiative seeks to build connections among textile entrepreneurs and help businesses expand their reach across the country.

Textile startup consultations planned for November, December

The ministry expects consultations with startups and small businesses to begin in late November or early December.

A national startup conclave is also planned for December to bring textile entrepreneurs together. The discussions will help officials assess business requirements and identify potential areas for government intervention.

The ministry has not yet detailed the specific support measures that may emerge from these consultations.

Startup India schemes offer funding and credit support

The government already operates several schemes under the Startup India initiative to support businesses across sectors, including textiles.

These include the Fund of Funds for Startups and the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups. The schemes provide eligible businesses with funding-related and credit assistance.

The proposed initiative will focus on understanding how textile businesses can scale their operations and become export-ready. Its implementation will depend on the ministry’s assessment of startup requirements and the support measures identified through the planned consultations.
