Addressing the daily challenges faced by last-mile delivery and logistics personnel, the Telangana government has joined forces with quick commerce company Zepto to roll out a specialized welfare initiative. Under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Cyberabad authorities, the partners will establish five dedicated rest and amenity hubs across Hyderabad, officially designated as ‘Project PRAGATI Centres’.
Designed to be strictly platform-agnostic, these facilities are open to delivery personnel across the board—regardless of whether they work in food delivery, quick commerce, e-commerce, or third-party logistics.
What the PRAGATI Centres Will Offer
Under the partnership agreement, Zepto will undertake the full capital funding and ongoing maintenance for all five centers. Each hub is planned to feature a comprehensive suite of utility and welfare provisions:
- All-Weather Resting Spaces: Safe and comfortable shelters to protect workers from extreme weather conditions.
- Essential Amenities: Access to clean drinking water, dedicated sanitation facilities, and mobile charging points.
- Connectivity and Care: Free Wi-Fi access along with basic first-aid support.
- Health and Social Security Outreach: Regular health check-up camps alongside on-site assistance to help unorganised and gig workers register on the national e-Shram portal.
The initiative marks a proactive step by local authorities and corporate partners to improve working conditions and safety nets for the rapidly growing gig workforce in urban metropolitan clusters.
