Hyundai Motor Group investment in India will total $15.5 billion by 2032, as the South Korean automotive group plans to expand manufacturing, research and development (R&D), local sourcing and future mobility operations.
The Group announced the seven-year investment strategy on Tuesday after Executive Chair Euisun Chung met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi on October 13, 2026. The investment positions India as a key market for Hyundai’s long-term growth and expansion into emerging markets.
According to the Group, the plan will support a wider automotive ecosystem, covering vehicle production, technology development, supplier partnerships and new mobility businesses.
Hyundai to expand manufacturing and exports from India
The investment will support manufacturing capacity expansion at Hyundai Motor India Limited and Kia India Pvt Limited. The Group aims to accommodate higher volumes while increasing localisation to meet domestic market requirements.
Hyundai Motor Group also plans to strengthen India’s role as a global export platform. The expanded manufacturing base is expected to support both domestic demand and exports to international markets.
The Group said the investment would extend beyond setting up new facilities. It intends to build a more integrated automotive ecosystem through manufacturing, supplier development and technology innovation.
$700 million planned for R&D infrastructure
Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest approximately $700 million in its Indian R&D centre, including a vehicle testing track.
The investment will help expand R&D infrastructure, develop local talent and accelerate next-generation automotive technologies. The Group also aims to strengthen the technological capabilities of its Indian R&D operations and establish India as a core innovation hub.
Alongside R&D expansion, Hyundai will invest in regional suppliers to improve parts localisation and build a more resilient supply chain. The initiative will focus on identifying capable local partners and supporting strategic collaborations across the automotive industry.
New investment entity to coordinate projects
To implement the investment programme, Hyundai Motor Group will establish a dedicated investment entity in India.
The entity will coordinate investments in R&D infrastructure, future technologies and the wider automotive ecosystem. It will also identify local partners, facilitate strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration with Indian suppliers.
The Group said these measures would support a stable supply chain while expanding the participation of domestic companies in its operations.
Future mobility, EV charging and recycling in focus
Hyundai Motor Group also plans to invest in emerging mobility opportunities beyond conventional vehicle manufacturing.
The areas under consideration include support for high-potential startups, new mobility services linked to its vehicle business, specialised automotive financing, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and end-of-life vehicle recycling.
These initiatives are intended to expand the Group’s presence across the mobility value chain as the automotive industry evolves.
Investment expected to generate employment
Hyundai Motor Group said it employs more than 24,000 people across India. The investment is expected to create additional employment opportunities in manufacturing, R&D, engineering and supply chain operations.
The Group also expects the programme to support jobs beyond its own facilities through supplier partnerships, technology development and new mobility ventures.
“India remains one of Hyundai Motor Group’s most important and strategic markets globally,” Chung said, adding that the investment reaffirms the Group’s commitment to the country for the next 30 years and beyond.
He said Hyundai would work with partners and stakeholders to create employment opportunities and support India’s continued industrial development.
