The Intelligent Traffic Management System for Delhi has received official Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approval today. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the committee sanctioned Rs 1,789.52 crore for this comprehensive project. Delhi Police will implement this technology-driven project across 42 traffic corridors in three distinct phases over 24 months. Furthermore, five years of operation and maintenance will follow the initial installation phase to ensure seamless system functionality.
AI signals and smart enforcement transform capital roads
Currently, Delhi manages around 71 lakh active registered vehicles using fixed signal timings and manual control. Consequently, this Intelligent Traffic Management System for Delhi introduces adaptive traffic signals to manage actual road conditions dynamically.
| System Parameter | Project Target |
| Total Estimated Budget | Rs 1,789.52 crore |
| Adaptive Signal Locations | 1,092 junctions |
| Enforcement Locations | 1,029 sites |
| Implementation Timeline | 24 months (3 phases) |
Additionally, Adaptive Traffic Control Systems will adjust signal timings dynamically to clear vehicle blockages along major corridors. Meanwhile, the platform provides automated green corridors for emergency ambulances to ensure faster passage through congested stretches.

Technology integration and enforcement oversight
Specifically, real-time analytics will detect traffic congestion, wrong-way driving, speeding, and red-light violations automatically. Furthermore, artificial intelligence will track stolen vehicles, repeat traffic offenders, and hit-and-run incidents across the entire city network.
Variable Message Sign boards and navigation service providers will relay live traffic updates directly to commuters. Master System Integrator candidates will execute the project through competitive bidding under strict performance parameters. Meanwhile, C-DAC will serve as the Project Management Consultant to monitor technical validation and ongoing operations. Ultimately, this smart initiative will make commuting safer, faster, and far more reliable for every citizen.
