Mumbai airport international slots for the Summer 2027 schedule have been allocated to 38 overseas carriers, according to sources.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) finalised the allocation on Thursday for the schedule beginning in March 2027. The decision follows consultations with airlines amid plans to renovate the airport’s Terminal 1.
Sources said 12 of the 50 international airlines operating at Mumbai airport have not received slots for the next summer schedule. These carriers operate around 16 daily departures to 14 destinations.
The affected airlines may operate these services from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), sources said. The arrangement is not expected to affect around 91 per cent of Mumbai airport’s existing traffic capacity.
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), which operates both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports, did not comment.
International airlines raise objections to slot allocation
The slot allocation comes amid opposition from international airlines to MIAL’s plan to shift some international flights to NMIA.
Sources at the Airport Operators’ Committee (AOC) alleged that MIAL had taken a unilateral decision without following international guidelines.
“(This is a) totally unilateral decision and (MIAL is) not adhering to both MOCA and IATA SLOTS guidelines,” they said.
The objections relate to the proposed transfer of international operations from Mumbai airport to NMIA during the planned renovation of Terminal 1.
Shift to Navi Mumbai deferred to March 2027
MIAL had initially planned to begin the partial shift of international operations from October 25. However, it deferred the deadline to March 2027 after several foreign airlines raised concerns about the transition plan.
The revised timeline coincides with the start of the Summer 2027 schedule.
Meanwhile, Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and Akasa Air have announced plans to shift their international operations to NMIA in phases over the coming months.
The four airlines will undertake the transition jointly with AAHL.
Mumbai airport is operated by MIAL, while both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports are part of the Adani Airport Holdings network.
