The LB Nagar Hayathnagar elevated corridor has received approval for inclusion in Telangana’s annual infrastructure plan, following a meeting between Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and state Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in New Delhi.
Gadkari also assured the state that expansion of National Highway 65 (NH-65), connecting Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam, would begin in January 2027. The tendering process is scheduled for completion in November, according to the state government.
The meeting covered several road and transport proposals, including a cable bridge across the Krishna river, ropeways, railway overbridges and elevated highway corridors.
LB Nagar Hayathnagar Elevated Corridor to Address Traffic Congestion
The proposed double-decker elevated corridor is intended to ease congestion in the eastern parts of Hyderabad, where rapid urban expansion has increased pressure on existing roads.
Komatireddy told Gadkari that the route serves more than one million people across around 54 colonies. Employees, students and businesspeople use the stretch daily, which faces heavy traffic and frequent accidents.
The state government expects the project to improve road safety, reduce travel time and increase traffic-handling capacity along the corridor.
The approval allows the project to be included in the annual plan. Further project details, including construction timelines and costs, were not provided in the announcement.
NH-65 Expansion to Begin in January 2027
Gadkari assured Telangana that work to expand NH-65 would begin in January 2027, with the tendering process expected to conclude in November.
The existing four-lane highway has experienced a substantial rise in traffic, according to Komatireddy. He said the state had addressed 17 identified accident-prone locations through flyover construction but called for the proposed highway expansion to be expedited.
The state has sought an upgrade to a six-plus-two-lane configuration using modern construction technology. The Hyderabad-Vijayawada corridor is an important road link between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, while the wider route also connects towards Machilipatnam.
Krishna River Cable Bridge and Five Ropeways Proposed
The meeting also covered a proposed cable bridge across the Krishna river at Somasila. According to Komatireddy, the bridge could shorten the distance to Tirupati by around 80 km and reduce travel time by nearly three hours.
Gadkari also agreed to the foundation stone laying for the bridge, according to the state government.
In addition, five ropeway projects under the Centre’s Parvatmala scheme and three railway overbridges for Telangana received approval, as stated in the announcement.
The minister also directed officials to prepare a fresh Detailed Project Report for an elevated corridor along the Hyderabad-Srisailam highway, designated NH-765.
Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Highway and Other Road Proposals
Gadkari responded positively to a proposal for a greenfield highway connecting Hyderabad and Amaravati. If taken forward, the project could strengthen road connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Komatireddy also sought support from the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for 34 road projects across Telangana.
Separately, he proposed upgrading a road corridor connecting Pullur, Alampur, Jatrapole, Pentlavelli, Kollapur, Lingala, Achampet, Dindi, Devarakonda, Mallepalli and Nalgonda to national highway status. The state government said Gadkari responded positively to the proposal.
The proposals form part of Telangana’s efforts to improve road capacity, regional connectivity and transport infrastructure. Their implementation will depend on subsequent project approvals, planning and execution.
