Indian industry must accelerate innovation to convert scientific research into commercial enterprises and achieve national objectives set for 2047. Specifically, Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh outlined this strategic mandate while addressing the 121st Annual Session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in New Delhi on Saturday. Furthermore, he emphasized that domestic enterprises must build indigenous technologies to strengthen strategic sovereignty.
Union Minister demands transition to indigenous technological creation
Addressing industry leaders and entrepreneurs, Dr Jitendra Singh noted that India’s next phase of technological growth must move beyond adoption of foreign technologies toward creating indigenous solutions with global relevance. “The expansion of the space ecosystem following policy reforms, alongside greater private-sector participation in strategic technology areas, demonstrates the opportunities that emerge when scientific capabilities are supported by an enabling policy environment,” said Dr Jitendra Singh.
| Strategic Parameter | Progress & Target Financial/Tech Metrics |
| National Quantum Mission | Achieved 1,000 km of quantum-secure communication in 3 years (2,000 km target) |
| Bioeconomy Valuation | Grown from $10 billion (2014) to $196 billion (Targeting $300 billion by 2030) |
| Policy Mandate | Integration of industry with academia and start-ups under RDI initiative |
Public-private research synergy critical for commercial viability
Additionally, Dr Jitendra Singh urged corporate leaders to partner with research institutions right at the inception stage of technology development. Specifically, early industry participation ensures scientists understand market needs and create clear pathways to commercial deployment.
Furthermore, he cited the National Quantum Mission and the expanding biotechnology start-up ecosystem as proof of India’s research potential. Consequently, private-sector participation under the government’s Research, Development and Innovation initiative remains vital. Therefore, as Indian industry must accelerate innovation across advanced sectors, public-private synergy will continue driving economic value.
