Indian startups are making low-cost rockets pose a growing commercial threat to SpaceX, according to Zoho Chief Scientist and Co-founder Sridhar Vembu. Specifically, Vembu outlined India’s rising space technology capabilities on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, October 10. Furthermore, he credited policy reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving rapid private-sector innovation.

Drawing a direct industry comparison, Vembu noted that low-cost Indian rockets challenge SpaceX much like Chinese electric vehicles challenge Tesla. “Directly due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government policy, Indian startups are making major advances in low-cost rockets,” said Sridhar Vembu.

Consequently, he emphasized that government support actively prevents monopolies while encouraging a massive surge in competitive startups.
