German robotics maker RobCo announced on Monday that it achieved unicorn status. Specifically, RobCo hit $1 billion valuation as CEO moved to US to focus directly on expanding operations in the company’s fastest-growing market. Chief Executive Officer Roman Hölzl relocated to North America to spearhead customer growth across multiple states.

Secondary share sale propels Munich robotics firm to unicorn status

Furthermore, the Munich-based startup confirmed that the new valuation stems from a secondary share transaction. According to Reuters report copy, this financial milestone follows a $100 million funding round in January. Investors backing the firm include Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia, and Lingotto.

Additionally, company employees sold equity worth $40 million to both existing and new venture investors. Cherry Ventures and the European Tech Collective participated actively in this secondary transaction.

RobCo expands American footprint and prepares new product launch

Meanwhile, RobCo joins an elite cohort of European robotics startups reaching $1 billion valuations. Peers in this group include Germany’s NEURA Robotics and Agile Robots, alongside the UK-based firm Humanoid.

Consequently, the company continues scaling its commercial footprint beyond its Munich headquarters. RobCo maintains active US offices in Austin and San Francisco, serving clients across more than 12 states.

Therefore, the 2020-founded firm plans to launch its new self-learning industrial robot, Alfie, in March. This two-armed machine automates complex industrial tasks that traditional automation systems cannot handle easily.
