The Origin robotics startup funding round has raised $20 million in total, co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, as the company looks to scale its robots for interior construction work.
The round also saw participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21, alongside angel investors from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.
Origin will use the funds to expand its robot fleet, deploy its flagship OG-1 robot and conduct customer pilots across the US and Europe. It also plans to extend its robotics platform to additional interior construction tasks.
Founded in 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar, the San Francisco-headquartered startup develops robots designed to automate labour-intensive construction activities.
Origin to expand OG-1 robot deployments
Origin’s flagship robot, OG-1, currently performs wall-finishing tasks, including applying compound, sanding and priming walls. The robot is designed for deployment across commercial spaces, residential apartments, data centres, hotels and warehouses.
The company said it deployed its first robots at construction sites in New York within 10 months of its founding.
Origin is preparing customer pilots in the US and Europe, including engagements with two large drywall-finishing contractors in the US. It also plans to conduct pilots in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.
The startup is targeting the deployment of 150 robots by the end of 2027.
It plans to expand OG-1’s capabilities beyond wall finishing to include taping, drywall installation, drilling and conduit installation. These additions are intended to help the company automate a wider range of interior construction activities.
Construction Action Model powers Origin’s robots
Origin’s robots use its Construction Action Model, a foundation model developed for construction workflows. The system combines task planning, autonomous navigation and tool control to help robots perform construction activities and adapt to changing site conditions.
The platform is central to the company’s plans to extend automation across different tasks and construction environments.
Ghaturle previously founded Perpule, a cloud-based point-of-sale startup acquired by Amazon in 2021. Makkar leads autonomy at Origin and previously worked at AI company Eightfold AI. Daga leads hardware and has worked at digital pathology startup Morphle Labs.
Construction robotics attracts growing investor interest
The Origin robotics startup funding comes amid increased investor interest in automation technologies for the construction industry, where companies face labour shortages and pressure to improve productivity.
A September 2026 survey by the Associated General Contractors of America found that worker shortages had delayed projects for 42 per cent of surveyed US construction firms.
Separately, a report by Zacua Ventures, published with Hilti Ventures and 94 Ventures, said construction robotics startups attracted $1.36 billion in venture funding during the first three quarters of 2025. This compared with $612 million raised during the whole of 2024.
Origin’s expansion plans reflect the push to deploy robotics on active construction sites, with the company aiming to scale its fleet and automate additional interior construction tasks across international markets.
