Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has inaugurated a new incubation facility at IT Park on Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun to support Uttarakhand’s technology startup ecosystem.
The facility aims to strengthen the state’s information technology and IT-enabled services (IT/ITeS) sector by providing modern infrastructure for startups and technology companies. It is designed to support innovation, product development, collaboration and employment generation, according to a statement issued on Friday.
Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce and Industry, said the facility would provide an environment for startups and technology enterprises to exchange ideas and develop innovative solutions.
Uttarakhand has more than 1,700 recognised startups, according to the statement. The new facility is intended to expand opportunities for entrepreneurs and strengthen the state’s technology ecosystem.
STPI incubation facility to support Uttarakhand startups
The new incubation centre will provide infrastructure to help technology enterprises develop products, build partnerships and expand their businesses.
Pankaj Pandey, IT Secretary of Uttarakhand, said the facility would help young entrepreneurs turn their technical expertise into businesses.
“The new STPI incubation facility is a major addition to Uttarakhand’s technology ecosystem, offering young entrepreneurs the infrastructure and support including initiatives like the Centre of Entrepreneurship to convert their expertise into successful businesses,” Pandey said.
He added that such initiatives could strengthen the state’s digital footprint, encourage innovation and create opportunities for young people.
The facility is expected to support collaboration among startups and technology companies, while providing an environment for business development and growth.
Semiconductor manufacturing and technological self-reliance
Prasada also highlighted the importance of strengthening India’s domestic technology capabilities, particularly in semiconductors and electronics manufacturing.
He said technological self-reliance was essential in an interconnected global economy, especially for critical technologies where supply disruptions could affect multiple industries.
“The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how chip shortages can disrupt entire industries, underscoring the importance of building domestic manufacturing capabilities,” Prasada said.
He added that efforts to strengthen the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem were aimed at securing India’s technological future while maintaining international engagement and adopting global best practices.
Technology incubation to expand startup opportunities
The inauguration adds to the infrastructure available to Uttarakhand’s growing startup ecosystem. Incubation facilities can provide technology enterprises with workspace and support as they develop products and establish operations.
The new Dehradun facility focuses on IT and IT-enabled services, with an emphasis on innovation, entrepreneurship and product development.
Its longer-term contribution will depend on how startups use the infrastructure and support available to develop commercially viable products, expand operations and generate employment across the state.
