Strengthening academic infrastructure in Northeast India, Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stone for ₹110 crore in development projects at Gauhati University. The initiative includes building a new multidisciplinary academic building, a dedicated boys’ and international students’ hostel, and upgrades to campus library and auditorium facilities.

Founded on January 26, 1948, as the first university in the region, Gauhati University currently holds a prestigious NAAC A+ accreditation and stands 9th among State Public Universities in the NIRF 2025 rankings.
