GURUGRAM: Tragedy struck the Smart World Developers construction site in Sector 113 on Friday afternoon when two workers plunged from the 19th floor, leaving one dead and another critically injured. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Dilkhush, a native of Katihar, Bihar. The injured worker, 29-year-old Vasudev from West Bengal, is currently fighting for his life in the hospital. Smart World Developers is backed by the promoters of M3M India and was co-founded by Pankaj Bansal and Aishwarya Bansal.
Anger Erupts On-Ground: Workers Clash With Management
The fatal fall immediately triggered fury among fellow workers at the site. Alleging gross negligence and a total lack of safety protocols, agitated workers surrounded and allegedly manhandled company officials who arrived at the scene. The tension escalated to the point where a police Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) was also vandalized before the Bajghera police arrived with heavy reinforcements to restore order.
While company representatives maintained in preliminary statements that the tragedy was a result of an accidental slip, workers flatly rejected the claim, pointing to systemic safety lapses.
Ground Zero: What Workers Told Infra Insiders
Speaking exclusively to Infra Insiders on the ground, fellow workers laid bare the dangerous reality behind high-rise construction in the city.
“We work without safety harness at height. Dilkhush was also working without safety gears. We have raised the issue earlier as well but it seems our life doesn’t matter,” shared Rakesh Tanwar (name changed for privacy), a labourer working at the site.
The apathy of developers towards high-rise safety was echoed by locals as well. Sunit Kumari, a local resident, told Infra Insiders, “I often see construction workers working at heights without proper safety and fears for their lives. It feels scaring even if you see them working at such a height.”
Police Investigation Underway
Providing details on the legal proceedings, Sunil Kumar, SHO of the Bajghera police station, stated, “We handed over the body to kin after a postmortem examination. It was an accident only and no complaint has been received from either party regarding the matter so far. We are investigating the safety measures that were in place for the workers at the site at the time of the incident and whether there was any negligence involved. A further probe is underway.”
